Town Clerk Georgette DavisThe Massena Town Clerk is an elected position and is responsible under State Law for maintaining the custody of all public records for the Town. The Clerk issues various licenses and permits (including burning, hunting, fishing, dog, building, certificate of occupancy, going out of business, games of chance, bingo and marriage licenses). On behalf of the State and the Town she is also responsible for maintaining other legal documents such as, manuscripts, books, minutes of board meetings and vital statistics.

Through the Town Clerk, you can obtain Vital Records (birth, death, marriage) for individuals who were issued those certificates in Massena. You can request them in person, by visiting the Town Clerk's office; or, by mailing your request to the Clerk with the necessary documents and payment.

Because birth certificates and other vital records are sensitive documents, most government agencies will restrict who can request certificate copies. As a result, certified copies of vital record certificates are only available to the specified individual or their immediate family members.

In order to obtain a certified copy of any vital record, you will need: valid photo identification, the complete name that would have appeared on the requested vital record, pertinent dates (birth, death, marriage), reason for the request, and -- if you are a member of the individual's immediate family making the request -- your name. There is a fee of $10 (payable to Massena Town Clerk) if the request is made in person; or, $16 to request a certificate by mail ($33 if you require next business day).

To order Birth (or Death) certificates by mail, please send a written request that has been notarized, along with a photocopy of your current ID (such as a valid driver's license). In your request, make sure to include the name of the individual, date of birth (or death), both parents' names (include mother's maiden name), the purpose for requesting the document, a mailing address to send the certified copy of the certificate, phone number and payment. The current fee is $10, payable to the Massena Town Clerk by certified bank check or money order.

Geneology Searches: Please send your written request with all possible info, regarding dates, possible spelling of name, any parent info. There is a $22 fee for a search of a three year period per record. A certified bank check or money order must accompany your request, made payable to Massena Town Clerk.

The Town Clerk also helps in the coordination of all Primary and General Elections. Voter registration cards can be obtained by visiting the Clerk's office, located on the main floor of the Town Hall.
