Volunteer of the Year Award

This year the award was given to two volunteers. Tina Corcoran (Massena Memorial Hospital) and Chris Herrick (Whalen, Davey & Looney). Both individuals have consistently given generously of his or her time in support of Chamber events, projects and initiatives over a sustained period. These two people were involved in making sure the Chamber office was open and serving the public in its time of transition in 2007. The amount of extra time spend working on Chamber business after their regular full time jobs this past year was staggering. Our sincere thanks to you and your families for the support you have given the chamber of commerce.

Gert Jurkovich Commitment to the Community Award

This award was given to Paul Patterson for his dedication to the Town of Massena during his tenure with the Recreation Commission. Business Leadership Award

The business leadership award was awarded to Pat Curran from Seaway Timber Harvesting. Pat has come a long way in a tough business, from his roots as a manual logger right out of high school to his current 100% mechanized roadbuilding, logging, chipping and hauling operation. What used to be a modest operation when he first got started in the early 80's has turned into a growth enterprise with more iron than you can count and a broadening customer base on both sides of the border. Today Seaway Timber Harvesting employs 100 people, and ther are plans currently in the works to develop a wood pellet manufacturing plant here in Massena's Industrial Park that will help sustain 50 more people. Although economic development and growth can be difficult and challenging at times, Pat's strong work ethics and entrepreneural spirit continue to lead his effort and that of his borthers and their employees. Recognizing opportunities and developing good community relationships are his strengths, and will prove to be his success in his future endeavors. Congratulations Pat and the Seaway Timber Harvesting Company.

Thank you to WalMart for sponsoring the Business Leadership Award.
