We think that when when you realize what Massena has to offer, you'll want to know more. As you browse our website, it will quickly become obvious why Massena has long been the premier industrial center of Northern New York. Our natural resources; skilled workforce and extremely low power costs are just a few of the reasons why so many companies, from Fortune 500 corporations to middle sized and small companies have chosen to locate in our community. Massena has just about everything a new or expanding business needs to be successful, as well as being a great place to live and work. We invite you to discover the business opportunities and our community by simply exploring this website. You'll see why we're more than just a little proud of Massena. Strategically located in northern New York State, Massena sits on the banks of the mighty St. Lawrence River and the International Seaway shipping channel, with access to the ports of the Great Lakes. Because we are located less than 10 miles from the Canadian border, we are ideally situated for cross border trading. Massena is also the gateway to the majestic Adirondack Mountain playground and the Lake Placid Olympic Region. Massena has long been the premier industrial center in the northern New York region and its largest manufacturing employer for over 100 years. Until recently, it was home to General Motors-Central Foundry, which closed in 2009, a victim of the sagging automobile market. However, Reynolds Metals, another longtime Massena employer, merged with Alcoa-Massena Operations in 2000. Alcoa, the world's largest aluminum producer, has been here since 1902 and is currently in the engineering phase of a state-of- the-art $600 million modernization here. In addition to the large scale industrial presence in Massena, we are also host to several small to medium sized manufacturing operations, including those located at the Massena Industrial Park.
The Massena Industrial Park is a 55 acre fully-serviced subdivision zoned for light, medium and heavy industrial use. The park, owned by the Business Development Corporation for a Greater Massena, is located on the south side of the village and is bounded on the east side by South Main Street (NYS Rt. 420). Park infrastructure includes 8- and 10-inch water mains, 8-inch sewer mains, and a full-loop road accessing all lots. Natural gas is supplied by the St. Lawrence Gas Company, and electricity is supplied by the Massena Electric Department, a municipal power system that services both residential and commercial users in the Massena area. A Conrail line runs adjacent to the north and west boundaries of the park and the BDC is currently working toward providing a rail spur that will connect directly to the Industrial Park and facilitate improved material handling options.
